Chassidic Reggae singer Matisyahu spends a good part of his day in meditation. On a recent album, the Matisyahu Meditation on Silence caught my interest. The opening words of the song are taken from the Amida – the standing silent prayer. The words that Matisyahu says in translation are: “May it be your will that the sayings of my mouth and the meditations of my heart be before you Lord – my rock and redeemer.”
The rest of the song is Matisyahu’s personal expansion of his meditation. The words – set here to pictures – create a calming mood that calls for introspection.
