Chakra Meditation Techniques: Simple Beginner Chakra Meditation

chakra guided meditation technique

One of our top requests is for chakra meditation techniques.Chakra Meditation Techniques

Chakras are energy centers in your body.  Many Eastern traditions use the concept of chakras, and chakra balancing.  Here’s a quick peek at what Wikipedia has to say about Chakras. (chakra diagram used with permission for WikiMediaCommons).

Chakra is a concept referring to wheel-like vortices which, according to traditional Indian medicine, are believed to exist in the surface of the etheric double of man.   The Chakras are said to be “force centers” or whorls of energy permeating, from a point on the physical body, the layers of the subtle bodies in an ever-increasing fan-shaped formation. Rotating vortices of subtle matter, they are considered the focal points for the reception and transmission of energies. Different systems posit a varying number of chakras; the most well known system in the West is that of seven chakras.

Ok… enough theory…. Chakra theory can get very dense.

What I want to do with this article is just give you a taste of a simple beginner chakra meditation.  I like this particular version because it is simple, easy, and you will feel your chakras!

Chakra Meditation Techniques

Steps to follow for meditating chakras:
1. Get comfortable in your seat.
2. Start and concentrate with the regular deep breathing exercises – in and out.
3. Take your attention to your root chakra (perineum).Envisage on red color and concentrate on root chakra for couple of minutes. This will create a connection between you and the earth.
4. Move to your sacral chakra (between your navel and your genitals). Envisage on orange color and remain at the chakra for a while. This will create a bathed situation in creative juices.
5. Next is the solar plexus chakra, which is between the navel and chest. Picturize and imagine on yellow color and remain for few minutes. This will create a unique power deep in you.
6. Fourth chakra, focus on heart chakra (center part of the chest). Visualize and focus on green color and concentrate on the chakra for few minutes. This chakra will make you feel the power of love.
7. Go to the next level of throat chakra, (throat). Visualize and focus on blue color and concentrate on the chakra for few minutes. This will create and let you sense a unique vibration in the body.
8. Go to your third eye chakra (at the center of your forehead).Visualize and focus on indigo color and concentrate on the chakra for few minutes.See your vision expanding.
9. Final is the crown chakra, which is at the top of your head. Envisage on purple-red (violet) color and remain at the chakra for a while. This chakra will connect you with the spirit.
10. Let the energy flow out from your crown and down over your body. While the energy flows in a body, you will have an aura.
11.Then, focus on the energy flowing from root chakra to crown chakra.

There are many chakra meditation techniques.  This simple beginner chakra meditation is just one variation, but it’s a very good start.

Hi Angela — my condolences. This is a particularly challenging time for you .. .as you know FAR better than I do. May I gently and kindly suggest you download the loving kindness meditation that is offered at the top right hand sidebar on every page? It is totally appropriate for you to use this to send love and kindness to your spouse .. and to yourself too. It’s certainly not the whole answer… time and love will ease things (as you also know far better than I).

Sending smiling compassion your way —

Hi my name is Eddie. I’m interested in learning many forms of meditation. I currently meditate, excercise, do yoga sometimes, and Pilates sometimes. I study a lot about using the mind and our thoughts to create our world. Some authors that read are Dr. Wayne Dyer, Dr. Deepak Copra, Eckhart Tolle, Dr. Michael J. Duckett, and the Dalai Lama. It is my goal in the near future to help others rebuild their lives and handle difficult circmstances by meditating. I also use meditation to heal, rebuild my life, and have peace of mind and happiness. I’m a spiritual guy and it’s my goal to become versed in many different forms of meditation and healing.

p.s. I have started a page “Expanding Your Divine Self” on Facebook in order to share information like this. I have many more developments coming in the near future to take my wservice of helping others to the next level.

    Thank you,

I would love guided chakra meditation techniques as well. I appreciate the simple meditation above, but find stopping and reading each step is not as convenient or easy to stay focused as a guided mediation would be. Also do you have any tips or exercises to help me be able to visualize or “see” the actual colors when my eyes are closed? I can sit there and think about them but can not get past black and white so to speak, i even try to look at the color I’m try to visualize right before I close my eyes, but no help so far… Thank you for any input or advice!

      July 21, 2011 at 1:38 pm

Hi Stacey… about stopping at each step … that is why teachers guide the first few times … following the voice is much easier than following written instructions. There are other benefits of a guided meditation too… as you know.

Now about colors and visualization. Different people have different inborn talents when it comes to visualization. But like any skill… practice makes it better. Practicing imagining colors for short moments as you go through your day will help.

But your visualization skills are not the key element. It is the purity and focus of your intention … it is regular practice , the more regular the better, and it it your gentle persistance in returning your mind to the meditation every time it wanders, gets distracted, or starts worring about the level of your performance (whether that is the quality of your visualization… or other things, etc).

So I suggest that you be less concerned about your color visualization ability, have faith in yourself, and sit in meditation more often on a regular basis, even if the the time you spend is short.

Does that make sense to you?

Thank You for what you replied to Stacy above. It cleared up allot of things for me as well. Your simple steps make it so much easier to understand. I would love to be included in the guided meditation so that I can listen and follow along. Reading a meditation is difficult for me, I have to hear it. Again Thank You…

I would personally love something more advanced as far as chakra meditations go. I have been meditating for over 10 years. Sadly a lot of the books you can find out there are very basic, which can be good, but I would absolutely love to find some more advanced meditation techniques.

i want to learn better to connect to my higher self and to be able to receive infomation from my guides and spirit through meditation. i do have a problem with “static” in my brain, but i can see that you address that on your site and i will be exploring it in the next few days. i have already downloaded the guided meditation series and am looking forward to using them to my highest good. i just listened to the first one, which i enjoyed very much. and i also experienced a place of quiet, where i hadn’t been able to go for a long time. lovely, peaceful. your voice is quite soothing. so thanks for being there when i needed you, and looking forward to a great learning and loving experience. also very much looking forward to learning about the chakras and the meditation used to enhance and align them. (eh? :- ) ) blessings, pam

      Hi Pam –

You are not the only one with static in the brain … we all do.
It’s nice to hear that the loving kindness meditation was helpful to you.

Next up on the free guided meditations is Dr. Kilstein’s Passion-Ation Meditation.
And then I’ll put one of my Chakra meditations up there..

Thanks again for the kind words…
