Jim Van Wyck

Hey, I’m Jim.

Let’s start at the beginning.

I was a jerk.

Freshman year of university, my girlfriend called me an arrogant jerk. And she was right. She was ready to dump me unless I took up Transcendental Meditation, also known as TM. So, I took the plunge.

Every morning and evening, I’d sit down and recite my secret TM mantra. After two years of not missing a single session, let’s just say the arrogant jerk had learned a lot of lessons.

I found my life’s passion.

Not only did I manage to save my relationship, but I also stumbled upon what would become my life’s passion.

In 1982, things got serious. I got certified as a TM Teacher. From being on the verge of a breakup to guiding people through their meditation journey—it was a 180-degree turn. And I knew I was just getting started. I dug deeper and got trained in Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR). That’s a program created by Jon Kabat-Zinn, by the way.

I’ve been teaching meditation and positive self-talk ever since. Years into it, I realized I wanted to take things to the next level. So, I co-founded The Meditation Coach Institute. I even wrote the course and created all the training videos for our Mindfulness Coach Certification Training.

Over the years, every chance I get to learn from a meditation teacher, I grab it if I can.

I am what’s called an “Old Student” by SN Goenka’s Vipassana organization because I have done numerous 10-day silent retreats. These are the most challenging and most powerful meditation retreats I have ever experienced. You can learn more about them and their wonderful 10 day retreats here.

I have also been blessed to participate as a student at retreats at the Insight Meditation Society, which I also recommend highly.

Self Talk, Mindfulness & Meditation

Since those early days in the ’80s learning about TM mantras, I’ve been fascinated by the power of self-talk.

It’s not just about what you say to others; it’s what you say to yourself that shapes your reality.

Realizing the transformative power of nurturing internal dialogue, I had to do something more. So, this year, in 2023, I took a leap. I launched SelfTalkCenter.com. This isn’t just another website; it’s a sanctuary. A place designed to help people harness the power of positive self-talk.

Ever catch yourself spiraling in negative thoughts?

Yeah, we all do. But how cool would it be to flip the script? That’s what SelfTalkCenter.com is all about. Helping you replace those self-destructive narratives with empowering, nurturing words.

You know, over the years, I’ve seen firsthand how changing your inner dialogue can be a game-changer. And now, I want to share those insights on a broader scale. The site offers articles, resources, and even guided sessions. Everything you need to become your own best supporter.

You might be thinking, “Okay, so you teach. What else?”

Well, I write too.
