Have you heard of flash mobs? Its a group of people who suddenly gather in public places to do unusual activities. The latest craze is wonderful. There is a large and growing movement of flash mob meditations around the world.
From Thursday, August 25 to Sunday, August 28, thousands of people in more than 130 cities will meditate at government buildings and universities around the world, including Montreal, London, Amsterdam, Melbourne, Rome, and Kenya.
This movement, known as MedMob, began this year on January 30th when 60 people launched a meditation flash mob in Austin at the Texas State Capitol. In February, the Austin MedMob grew to 250 people with seven other cities hosting their own MedMobs. In eight months, MedMob has expanded rapidly to become a worldwide movement with public meditations planned in more than 130 cities.
“Our initial intention was to expose Austin to the power of meditation and invite people from all walks of life to join,” commented Patrick Kronfli, co-founder of MedMob. “It’s inspiring to see leaders around the world rise up to create the same experience and it’s exciting to be part of a global movement committed to internal peace.”
On Thursday, August 25th at 5:30 pm, in Place Vauquelin next to Montreal’s City Hall, a large group of sitting meditators will exude an inner peace, strength, and happiness intended to brighten the day of every observer. The mediation is scheduled for an hour and will conclude with 10 minutes of a sound bath.
Everyone is invited to join and participate – all experience levels, spiritual paths, & perspectives.
Research has shown that meditation has a positive effect on our health and that meditating in big groups creates an electro-magnetic wave that impacts the world around us. MedMob is consistent with increasing developments around the world where people are realizing the benefits of seeking internal peace, balance, and fulfillment. Original press release here.

September 21, 2011, The International Day of Peace.
