There are very few subjects in these “studies”‘ and the pain stimulus doesn’t come close being as intense as throbbing back pain or chronic fibromyalgia.

Anything that helps reduce and control pain without any side affects is a great thing, but more research is needed to understand the powerful mind more completely. For many Meditation techniques are a tool they use for temporary relief of mild to moderate pain. Severe and chronic pain are still treated with pain medication and that is okay, no one should suffer through unnecessary pain.
