When you first begin to meditate, you can start by focusing on your breath. This helps to bring you into the present moment as well as give you something to focus on.
You can also begin to imagine that with each breath in you are bringing in energy, and with every exhale you are releasing tension. Only start by meditating for 5 minutes a day and work your way up to 15 minutes. The goal is to reach a deep state of relaxation.
Another meditation technique would be to imagine a flame in your mind. Really study the flame and notice every detail…losing yourself in it. If your mind wanders, that’s okay, just bring your attention back to imagining the flame. You can then switch to imagining other items once you have gotten good at imagining the flame.
Don’t be afraid of trying different types of meditation. Start with the two techniques presented in this video and then add others that you can use each time you sit down to meditate. Variety can help you to stay committed to your practice.
